Painting Series
Some of these series are ongoing while some are put to rest.
Cherry Legs
These oil paintings are part of a most recent series depicting a strong asian influence in composition and imagery. This series reveals a sense of prayer or contemplation interconnected with natural elements. A forward movement of strength is seen in the figurative leg at the center of each painting with the action of contemplation happening at the knee joint--a symbolic location; a physical point of heavy burden.
Under the Table
I learned to love to paint still life by studying for years with the late painter Lennart Anderson & my undergraduate mentor Rick Brazill. Since 2020, I began to think about what might be underneath the table might be as important to reveal. The yin yang of what is seen and what is swept underneath is perhaps equally important.
Remember Us
This is a direct response to the Covid-19 pandemic and the first paintings were created in 2020.
The idea is that We, You and I need to connect beyond the screen, to end the inner scream that isolation or distance from each other might bring. I was able to recognize the rapport and connection that floating nearer to another being is more healing than I ever recognized before.
Persephone
I love the story of Persephone--a wife and daughter who is part of 2 worlds. Leaving the underworld and spouse Hades for half the year, and then leaving her mother, goddess Demeter who in turn lets the earth turn cold and barren after Persephone departs for the underworld once more.
American Disrupt
This series recognizes the major disruption in America--political tirades and tantrums have given rise to confusion and anxiety.
Dream Paintings
Related to the drawing series, these paintings reveal a dream world from the artists insomnia--nightly thoughts and remembered dream states.
The Fall & The Searcher
This series of paintings is based around 2 femaile figures--the fall and the searcher. The figures are painted in different environments becoming fireflies, seeds, cocktails and armadas.
